Jan Bakelandts (RLT) surprised the peloton on a day in which I would have expected everyone in the group to have the bit between the teeth. Due to the craziness of yesterday every rider in the group had the same time. Today, with a nearly 1200m cat 2 climb in the center of the stage, as well as a 1km climb at 9% coming 12km from the finish, and one rider only needing a 1 second gap to take yellow, I expected pandemonium. Well, Bakelandts got the 1 second gap, but the pandemonium just wasn’t there. I’m still trying to wrap my head around that last bit as the opportunity to take yellow on even time is so rare in a TdF that usually the riders cannot contain themselves.
